The Central Statistics Office is going to conduct the seventh agriculture census in the country, including Jhapa, from April 19. In Nepal, the department has been conducting a national agriculture census every 10 years since 2018 BS.

Chudamani Luintel, an official at the District Agriculture Census Office, said that 166 people including supervisors and enumerators are being deployed in all 15 municipalities of Jhapa. He said that 33 supervisors and 133 enumerators would be deployed in the district for the census to be started with the slogan 'Essence of Agricultural Census, Infrastructure of Agricultural Planning'.

According to the preliminary results of the National Census 2078, there are 9,400 agricultural families in Jhapa. Based on the same data, 136 wards of the district have been divided into 376 wards and supervisors and enumerators are being deployed, said official Luintel. He informed that the contracted supervisors and enumerators would be trained at Mechi Campus from April 8 to April 15 and then sent to their homes for 45 days for data collection. The government expects the census to provide details of how much the Ministry of Agriculture has invested in the agricultural sector over the past ten years, the official said.

In the agricultural census, details of agricultural work being done at the family, commercial and institutional firms will be collected. According to Luintel, the office has been working in the district since March 15.
