2,486 new cases of coronavirus reported on Saturday

Nepal's COVID tally hits 297,087

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Saturday reported 2,486 new cases of coronavirus infection in Nepal. The addition of new cases has taken the country's COVID-19 tally to 297,087. Additionally, 133 persons have tested positive for the virus in the Antigen test conducted in the past 24 hours.

Likewise, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have reported 872 new cases of coronavirus infection — 644 in Kathmandu, 141 in Lalitpur and 87 in Bhaktapur — in the past 24 hours.

As many as 368 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. With this, a total of 277,123 persons infected with coronavirus in the country have recovered as of Saturday. At present, the recovery rate stands at 93.9 per cent as per the data released by the MoHP.

The nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 3,136 with the report of 14 more deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Presently, there are 16,828 active cases in Nepal.

Earlier, the MoHP on Friday had reported 2,449 cases of coronavirus that had taken the nationwide tally to 294,601.

As of Saturday, a total of 2395725 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 16,828 persons staying in isolation while 71 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 145.61 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 33,225,392 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a tally showed as of 4:26 pm, on Saturday, April 24, 2021.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
