A trekking route linking the Durlek hills in the top of Rum in ward no 2 of Malika rural municipality in Myagdi District has been constructed, along with a resting place for trekkers.

Both the structures were completed at the total cost of Rs. 3.5 million with grant assistance of the Gandaki provincial government. Of the amount, Rs. 2.5 million was received from the Infrastructure Development Programme for the trekking route and Rs One million from the Tourism Infrastructure Programme for the resting place, ward chair Nar Bahadur Pun said. The two kilometer trekking route starts from Jhandi to the temple of Durlek. Steps have been constructed in steep locations while the entire stretch has been paved with stones, as a result people can avoid falling down in the slippery road or losing their way to the destination, chairperson of the users committee Lalu Pun said. The road is 1.5 meters wide.

Likewise, a well-equipped resting place has been constructed for the benefit of the travelers near Durlek. The one-storey building can also help overnight stay for tourists visiting Durlek.

Located at an altitude of 3,600 meters from the sea level, the Durlek hills remains in shadow despite its tourism potential. Beautiful landscape including the mountain range covering Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchre mountains can be observed from Durlek.

It is also a good spot to observe sunrise and sunset every day. Efforts are also being made to carry out a feasibility study for the possibility of ski games during the winter in the hills, said ward chair Pun.
