Paragliding, which was postponed after the death of an athlete during the 9th National Games, has opened again from today. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has given permission to open paragliding with 5 different conditions.

Binay Giri, deputy manager of the flights operation division, informed that paragliding was opened after the Nepal Airsports Association was ready to fulfill the conditions set by the authority.

The rules set for the authority are as follows:

  • Flying must be done only in the designated flight area,
  • Paragliding pilot must be medically and mentally qualified
  • All paragliding pilots must wear the prescribed uniform and the name of the company as well as the pilot must be clear.

Similarly, the authority has mentioned that the gliders used in commercial flights will only be allowed to fly commercially if they are tested by the authority's inspector.

25-year-old Nepal Army player Nisim Thapa died in an accident during the Paragliding 'Cross Country' competition under the ninth edition of the National Games.

After the accident, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Hans Raj Pandey, Deputy Director General of the Authority, to make paragliding flights regular, safe and orderly.

The said committee submitted a report to open paragliding again with various conditions.
