The late Babu Chiri Sherpa Open Sport Climbing Competition has started.
The 'Late Babu Chiri Sherpa Open Sport Climbing' competition was inaugurated by Nangel Jangbu Sherpa, Chief of Solududhakunda Municipality, at Krimpanji Adventure Hub located in Buddha, Kathmandu.
He said that this competition will help not only in the field of health but also in physical development.
26 men and 15 women participated in the competition. The competition is jointly organized by the Mountain Sports Association and Everest Climbers Association. Nwang Nima Sherpa, President of the Mountain Sports Association, said that this kind of competition will help to promote adventure mountain sports.
Technical support (route setting, judging, safety, and belay service) has been provided by the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association for this competition. The competition is being organized separately for men and women, and cash prizes of fifty thousand, thirty thousand, and fifteen thousand will be given to the first, second, and third place in the competition.
The main judges of the competition are Chiring Zangbu Sherpa, Jamchang Bhote, and Pimba Tenzing Sherpa.
Late Sherpa was known as the world's most famous mountaineer who has reached the summit of Everest for the 10th time (including four times from China). He spent more than 21 hours on the summit of Mt. Everest without oxygen. which still stands as a record, and he managed to set two world records on Mt.Everest.
Unfortunately, he died on April 29, 2001, while attempting to climb Mount Everest for the 11th time.
