Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevanram Shrestha announced on Sunday that the government has announced that 2023 to 2033 will be celebrated as the Decade of Visit Nepal. After the country's tourism business was severely affected due to the pandemic, the government formed working groups to return the tourism business to its original state.
After Jeevan Ram Shrestha took charge as the tourism minister, the committee formed to implement the recommendations of those working groups made a tourism revitalization action plan.
In this financial year, the government is giving a discount on the annual license and registration fee for tourism-related businesses.
The government has launched a program to bring Gautam Buddha and Pokhara international airports into full operation. Similarly, it has been announced that a cleaning and sanitizing campaign will be carried out in important tourist places within a month.
A plan has also been made to give identity cards as an honor to people who have continuously contributed to the tourism sector.
Similarly, concessions will be arranged for foreign filmmakers and artists to shoot foreign films in Nepal.
A mountain climbing research center will be opened in the Everest region.
An Everest base camp study committee will be formed to study the risks of the Everest base camp. Similarly, a museum will be established to reflect the heroic identity of the Sherpas.
The government has also made preparations to open the climbing of more mountains from 5,800 meters to 8,000 meters for climbing within six months.
With the help of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, the 'One Nepali One Foreign Friend Campaign' will also be launched.
Similarly, preparations have been made to start night tourism in Kathmandu Valley and conduct night heritage tours in Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kirtipur.
After the COVID epidemic, the relief and revival packages put forward by the government for the development and promotion of the tourism sector, the vaccination campaign against COVID, and the efforts of the private sector have seen signs of improvement in recent times. Accordingly, the number of tourists visiting Nepal till June 2022 is 2 lakh 37 thousand 660.
