Domestic airline companies in Nepal will now be allowed to schedule regular flights based on the demand from passengers. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has said that the quota system that had been introduced for domestic flights due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic will be removed from Sunday.

CAAN has added that domestic airlines will now be allowed to operate flights based on demand because many roads and highways have been obstructed across the country due to the floods and landslides.

Domestic airline companies had earlier requested the civil aviation regulatory body to remove the quota system as they had been receiving many passengers who wanted to avail their services because the land routes in the country had been obstructed.

Currently, the government had allowed only 50 per cent of the regular flights to operate in the domestic sector. The domestic aviation sector had been closed by the government for a couple of months to stop the spread of the coronavirus and was allowed to resume operations from July 1.
