The bridge built on the Arun River connecting Num of Makalu-5 and Walung of Ward No. 1 in Sankhuwasabha is broken. Chief District Officer of Sankhuwasabha Nur Hari Khatiwada informed that the bridge was broken on Saturday afternoon while a low weight truck carrying construction materials was passing through.
According to CDO Khatiwada, three trucks carrying construction materials of Ipsuwa Hydro Power Company under construction fell into the Arun River after the bridge broke. The driver and co-driver of the truck were safe, said Puran Yamphu, executive member of Makalu Village Municipality-5.
Executive member Yamphu said that the traffic was disrupted after the bridge of Arun River broke. Yamfu, an executive member, said that the bridge broke while three trucks carrying more than the capacity of the bridge passed through.
He said that all three trucks were stuck in the river after the middle section of the bridge broke. The driver and co-driver have been rescued by the locals. In 2018, Ipsuwa Hydropower built a bridge to carry construction materials on the Arun River.
