Prince Dahal, a successful Nepali badminton player, is ranked No 1 in the junior rankings around the world. He is followed by Malaysia's players at number two and three. Earlier, he was ranked third.
Dahal, who came to know about the news last evening has been getting a lot of calls. However, his father, who lives in Darchula: a remote district in Nepal's far west, did not know about the news.
Dahal has been playing badminton since seven years old and he says his father has always been his inspiration as he also played in a number of regional level competitions.
The young badminton player is participating in the Asian Games in China this time and has set a goal to play in the 2024 Olympics in France as well. It is reported that he will be assisted by the World Badminton Federation to train for the upcoming Olympics.
Talking to NepalNews, Dahal said that he is encouraged by the results of his hard work in badminton. While his goal of becoming world number one has been achieved, he still needs to work hard and play in various competitions to stay in the position.
“Since I did not get to participate in competitions last year because of Covid, he made it clear that his goal is to do better in 2022. I plan to play the Pushpalal Memorial Badminton Tournament in Nepal in January,” says Dahal.
Participating in the Asian Games, Dahal plans to be as good in the senior’s category. He still has to play as a junior for one more year.
Dahal, studying in 11th class at Pinnacle College, practices badminton twice a day at the Bulls Club in Lalitpur in the morning and trains with Sudip Yonjan at the Revive Leisure Park at Mahalaxmisthan in the afternoon.
At the present he is focusing on scoring good scores in the Olympics.
