Marathon to connect historical areas: CM Pokharel

Gandaki Chief Minister Krishnachandra Nepali Pokharel has said that Beas Municipality has maintained foresight by connecting the two historical sites. Inaugurating the 44-kilometre ultra marathon organized by Beas Municipality-5 from Manungkot to Beas-8 Pulimarang today, Chief Minister Pokharel expressed the view that the marathon would play an important role in introducing Shahidgram Pulimarang from Manungkot through sports.

 Stating that Gandaki is a potential region, he said that the promotion of tourism through sports was a positive aspect. Mayor Vaikuntha Neupane informed that the annual marathon has been given priority for the purpose of promoting sports tourism. He said that the municipality has allocated Rs. 2.2 million for sports. Mayor Neupane hoped for the support of the Gandaki state government as there is an acute water crisis in Manungkot.

 Speakers including Deputy Chief Mira Joshi, Chief Administrative Officer Dilli Ram Sigdel and Ward Chairman of Byas-5 Mohan Kumar Shrestha said that the Beas Municipality has organized the marathon to promote tourism with long term thinking. In addition, the fifth Vyasnagar Alta Marathon 2078 has been organized. This year, the first prize of Rs. 85,078, second prize of Rs. 65,078, third prize of Rs. 55,078 and five consolation prizes of Rs. 16,078.

 Checkpoints have been set up at eight different locations along the runway to keep the entire marathon runway intact. Race director Ramesh Bahadur Bhattachan informed that 173 runners participated in the marathon.
