Silence period of NA election to start from midnight

The silence period of the National Assembly election to be held on January 26 is being implemented from midnight today. The Election Commission has urged all to abide by the code of conduct including removing election symbols before the start of the silence period.

Election campaigns and solicitation for votes are not allowed during the silence period. Also, election signs and propaganda materials placed around 300 meters from the polling station should be removed. The Election Commission has stated that the election campaign cannot be conducted through electronic means like SMS, Facebook, and Viber.

It is also prohibited to publish or broadcast news or information in such a way as to promote a candidate or any political party. The Election Commission has also instructed the concerned Election Officer to make arrangements to allow the voters to cast their votes after confirming the final voter list.

Voting for the 19 vacant seats in the National Assembly is being held in all seven states on January 26. There are 43 candidates from nine parties in the election.

Elections will be held for three posts in State 1, two in State 2, two in Bagmati, three in Gandaki, three in Lumbini, three in Karnali and three in the Far West.

There are a total of 2025 voters in all the states. According to the Election Commission, green and red ballot papers will be used in the election. The red ballot paper will be used by the local level chiefs and deputy chiefs and the green ballot paper will be used by the members of the state assembly.
