According to the constitutional provision, despite the high number of female people's representatives at the local level, access to meaningful and leading roles is said to be weak.
The Amargadhi Municipal Working Committee of the Nepal Women's Association has organized an interaction program with Nepali Congress officials and leaders at the district headquarters today with the objective of making meaningful participation of women for the selection of capable and strong people's representatives in the upcoming local level elections.
Stating that the women's association Dadeldhura is fully prepared for the local level election scheduled to be held on April 12, the women's association has stated that the party should give tickets in a way that women have meaningful representation in seven local levels and 52 wards.
Stating that women have won all the seats they got in the first local level election after federalism, Dadeldhura demanded that women should be promoted in the next election.
In Dadeldhura, which has seven local levels, only one woman was given a ticket for the top post on behalf of the Nepali Congress in the last election. In all the districts except two local levels, the women who got tickets from the Nepali Congress had won. In the ward, no woman was given a ticket for the post of chairperson. Zikir Sangh is of the view that strong and capable women should be made candidates in the upcoming election as well.
On the occasion, Nepali Congress General Convention Representative and Far-Western MP Govinda Raj Bohara said that they would give responsibility to the local level in a respectful manner based on the capacity of women. Recalling that women living in rural areas have not yet been freed from development and other violent issues, he said that the party would give responsibility to make capable women people's representatives in the upcoming election.
At the program presided over by the president of the association Laxmi Kharkawal, the participants said that women affiliated to the women's association should play an important role in winning the Congress candidate at every level.
