Deuba calls leaders to discuss on forming government

Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of Nepali Congress, has called the top leaders of CPN (Maoist Centre), Chairperson of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal Upendra Yadav, and CPN UML leader Madhav Nepal for discussions to form an alternate government. The leaders have been requested to visit Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha at 2 pm today for further talks.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has given the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) a deadline to form an alternative government by 9 pm on May 13. Issuing a press statement on Monday, she had called on the members of the HoR to form a government as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. According to the said article, a government can be formed with two or more parties forging an alliance.

After Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli lost the vote of confidence in the Parliament on Monday, Nepali Congress President Deuba, CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Yadav had issued a statement urging President Bhandari to call for the formation of a majority government as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
