As the upcoming local elections are approaching, political parties have started issuing their manifestos. In this context, the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) has made public its manifesto on Saturday with the slogan 'Commitment and Resolution for Building a Prosperous and Strong Nepal'.
At an interaction program organized in Janakpurdham, TMLP Chairman Vrishesh Chandra Lal and senior leader Dr Vijay Kumar Singh jointly unveiled a 15-point declaration. The declaration states that local level elections have been taken as an important step in the implementation of the constitution and the beginning of a new era. The declaration also states that there will be continuous struggle for freedom, equality, democratic rights, respect for identity and federal self-government.
Stating that the struggle for equality and respect has been determined by the Madhesi identity of the TMLP, the priorities include provincial state restructuring, amendment of the constitution, state sponsored migration, right of the state to land, right of landless Dalits, youth and labor force, easy access to education, et cetera.
The declaration also includes important points of the party, including balance of agriculture, industry and trade, private-public partnership, formulation of long term consensual development strategy for Madhes development, provision of regional party recognition, population based representation, free and fair communication and pragmatic foreign policy.
Addressing the interaction program, Chairman Lal directed the party leaders and cadres to be ready for the local elections. He said, "Our party is not in favor of any alliance in the election. Democracy requires an alliance between democratic forces." Speaking on the occasion, senior party leader Dr Singh claimed that the party would give political alternative to the country. The program was attended by district chairpersons and leaders and cadres of different districts of the party.
