10th HoR session underway

The first meeting of the 10th session of the House of Representatives (HoR) has commenced. During the meeting, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota read out the letter sent by President Bidya Devi Bhandari regarding the announcement of the session and welcomed the HoR members. Soon after the commencement of the meeting, the main opposition party, CPN UML surrounded the well, demanding to maintain parliamentary discipline.

The CPN UML has been expressing its dissatisfaction with Speaker Sapkota for not removing its lawmakers who had faced the party's action. The UML said it would continue protest in the 10th session of the federal parliament that began today.

Likewise, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dilendra Prasad Badu, has said the government was ready to sit for talks and dialogues with the main opposition CPN UML regarding the obstruction of the Parliament for long.

Talking to media following his exit from the meeting of House of Representatives today, the Minister said the UML had recently concluded its 10th national congress and the NC’s General Convention was about to over. “An atmosphere of consensus will be forged through mutual talks following the completion of the NC General Convention.”

As he stated, today’s meeting just saw the tabling of an ordinance and an atmosphere will be built to end the parliament deadlock and ensure deliberations on important bills like the Civil Service Bill.
