Traffic jam on Dumre-Bensisahar road section

Transport services have been added to the Dumre-Bensisahar road section connecting Lamjung and Tanahu since this morning.

The traffic has come to a standstill after the locals of Tanahu Baisjagar Bazaar blocked the road by burning tires over the issue of a student who drowned in the Marshyangdi River in Lamjung.

 After the District Administration Office Lamjung issued a restraining order on the Lamjung-Tanahu border from Paundi Bazaar to Siudibar, the relatives and supporters of the deceased staged a protest demanding various things. Traffic from Lamjung to Paundi Bazaar to Siundibar has been disrupted due to indefinite curfew since this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sanij Shrestha, 17, of Tanahu Bhanu Municipality-9.

 The relatives of Shrestha, who was staying in the hostel, were sent to swim outside the hostel without informing them. Protesters smashed the windows of two school buses and a van at the school on Tuesday. According to Inspector Janak Raj Regmi, the police fired 13 tear gas shells and aerial fire to bring the large crowd back to normalcy. According to him, police have arrested teachers Saroj Olia and Sabin Gurung who went with the deceased student.

 After the addition of vehicles, no vehicles have been able to operate from Bensisahar to Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and other places and from there to Lamjung. Passengers have to travel long distances after a curfew was issued in the area and tires were burnt at Tanahu's Baisjagar.
