The construction of the Melamchi-Helambu road has become uncertain as the Melamchi River has been continuously eroded by the floods.

The road has been blocked again due to continuous floods and erosion. Citizens of the upper region from Melamchi have been suffering due to a lack of road networks. The construction of the bridge has been hampered as well due to lack of roads, said Nima Galgen Sherpa, chairperson of Helambu village municipality. "The construction work of the bridge was almost completed at this time. There was no road and no goods could be brought," he said.

The current floods have also affected the village municipality's plan to complete the construction of temporary housing and relocate the affected people. Due to the continuous rains, the Melamchi River is still flooding and the riverside settlements from Helambu to Sipaghat are at risk.

On Sunday alone, a house near Talamarang Bazaar in Melamchi Municipality-6 was damaged by flood. The flood-ravaged Helmu Melamchi is still at risk. Mayor Dambar Aryal said that the people living in the riverside settlements have been urged to stay in a safe place and be vigilant.

"We have mobilized the entire plant to control the river and clear the road blocked by the river. Millions of rupees have been invested but our investment and hard work has been like water in the sand," he said.

Houses, tents, bridges and farms along the river from Timbu in Helambu to Melamchi-11 market are at risk due to continuous rainfall since last Friday. Hundreds of cultivable plantations are now being destroyed by the floods. According to the District Police Office, 272 concrete houses, 185 mud houses, 66 cowsheds, 52 others and 15 concrete suspension bridges have been damaged in the district till this morning.
