Police in the Australian state of Victoria on Wednesday arrested two men following a non-fatal shooting of a 76-year-old man in Melbourne last month.

On Wednesday morning, six warrants were executed at properties in South Melbourne, Tarneit, Truganina and Albion.

Victoria Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man would be charged with intentionally causing serious injury, possessing a firearm, and other related offenses, while a 23-year-old man would be released pending further inquiries.

On Aug. 17, a 76-year-old man was shot at his home address on Canterbury Road in Middle Park when he answered a knock to his front door at about 7:50 p.m. local time.

He sustained a gunshot to his lower body and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two women inside the property at the time, aged 72 and 39, were not physically injured.

At a press conference on the heels of the incident, Victoria Police Detective Acting Inspector Chris Ellway told reporters that the male offender wore a white hazmat suit and fled the scene on foot.

He described the shooting as "brazen" and "very concerning," as other people might turn up around the area at that time and the clothing of the offender also suggested that there was some degree of planning involved.

According to Victoria Police, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
