Hari Prasad Vaidya, a veteran artist who has been continuously contributing to the creation of art and heritage preservation, will be felicitated by Newa: Gwahali Pucha: Nepa: Ward No. 13 and 15 on Saturday, April 23.

85-year-old violin teacher, architectural designer, painter, and musician, Vaidya will be exhibiting his lifelong achievements at the Nepal Arts Council, Baber Mahal for three days.

Born in 1938 in Tangal, Kathmandu, Vaidya acquired basic knowledge of painting from renowned painter Chandraman Maskey and basic knowledge of music from pianist Krishnalal Tandukar. After that, he learned Nepal's traditional music, architecture, and modern painting through his own efforts and devoted his entire life to this field.

He made significant contributions to the construction of Akash Bhairav's Devghar in Indrachowk, Mahabuddha's Kwapah Cheh, Makhan's Vada Bhavan, Narayan Temple, Ganesh Temple, and Nrityeshwar Temple in Bangemudha.

Vaidya, who is responsible for making the logos of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and many others including one for the then National Panchayat members, is still teaching violin to the new generation of artists, said Bishnu Chitrakar, coordinator of the organizing body.

His contribution to the promotion of Nepali music in Australia is commendable. He is considered to be an accomplished painter who likes to draw scenes and portraits reflecting the Nepali environment.
