TEDx Durbarmarg concluded its TED talk 2022 “Taking Nepal to World'' successfully at Aloft Kathmandu, Thamel on May 21. The 41st initiation of the emerging platform for speakers from around the world in South Asia, TEDx Durbarmarg brought in 9 experts from different sectors including the CEO of Paytm Money, Varun Sridhar, and SBI CGM Anukool Bhatnagar, the event started at 12:30 pm.

The event dedicated to the late mother of the General Manager of TEDx Durbarmargh, Dr Sudeep Rauniar, Suruchi Rauniar, took off with EMCEE, Sama Thapa, thanking everyone for being present at the event and calling the first speaker, Varun Sridhar, CEO of Paytm Money.
Varun Sridhar, CEO of Paytm Money:
Sridhar explained ‘The art of not saying no’. Talking about his realisation of how he wanted to be in the banking world at the age of 16, he explains how ‘saying yes’ has helped him to reach where he is today.
He concluded his talk by asking everyone to practise saying yes to the right things in life, and not to be afraid to try something new.
Shilpa Maskey, actor, performer, and a budding entrepreneur
The second speaker for the day, Shilpa Maskey, talked about her experience and journey as an actor. Quoting Sanford Meisner’s “Acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances, "she explained how she came to fall in love with the art.
Before ending her session, Maskey explains how acting is not just about face but the human connection. And no matter what happens or what anyone else says, change is not an obligation but a choice whether it is how one looks or does.
Dr Shahil Rupakheti, Managing Director of Star hospital
Taking the topic “From Physical to Virtue”, Managing Director of Star Hospital, Shahil Rupakheti talked about his first-hand experience when COVID hit the nation. Rupakheti teasingly talked about how Nepalis were not afraid of COVID but when it became too real to ignore, all were in panic mode.
Rupakheti added how the hospital did the best they could during the pandemic and even thanked his team. “COVID made me realize how racism and sexism work for the first time when people started avoiding him during COVID time,” he explains.
Before coming to the end of his session, he asked everyone to get vaccinated and how it is the only reason we were able to come in together for the event.
After a short tea/coffee break, the event came back to the session. But before calling the next speaker, Seema Golcha, ventriloquist and former TED speaker performed her comedy act with her puppet, 'JacksDenial'.
Joseph Silvanus, Managing Director of Dolma Consultancy
Joseph Silvanus went on to talk about Nepal's beautiful Himalayan range and the vast ecosystem of the nation. Explaining how it is getting affected Silvanus explains ESG, Environmental, social, and governance.
He says it is the next change the nation and the world need.
Namrata V Shroff, Architect, interior designer, and entrepreneur
Namrata V Shroff talked about how “Life is a continuous Switch on”. Shroff talked about her experience as a mother and how there was a time she was feeling switched off but added how life now is about energy management and no longer about time management.
She gave four points for living:
Anuradha Koirala, Founder of Maiti Nepal
Being the founder of Maiti Nepal and working around the trafficking of women and children, Anuradha Koirala talked about how things have changed over the years. She talked about three types of trafficking:
Koirala explains how internal trafficking is increasing at an alarming rate in the nation. Minor girls from Sindhuli, Rammechap, and Kavre are trafficked and brought to Kathmandu to work at Khajaghar, and Dance bars.
Along with her experience during the pandemic, Koirala explained how she ended up helping sex workers after reading an article about them in Kathmandu Post. “There were 7,845 sex workers ranging from the age group 30 to 64. And now 150 have come out of the work. 3 have already become excavated drivers as well,” says Koirala.
Koirala went on to explain why so many girls are being trafficked in Nepal. The five points she gave were,
She ended her session by saying, “Real men don’t buy women.”
Anukool Bhatnager, Chief Manager of State bank of India (SBI)
Anukool Bhatnager talked about “How to pay more taxes?”. Bhatnager with his experience of 36 years in the banking sector explained how and why it is important to pay taxes.
He explains how to pay more taxes, you need to start making more money and the cycle is essential.
Anil Keshary Shah, CEO of Nabil Bank
The CEO of Nabil bank, Anil Keshary Shah, talked about “Objective of life”. He went on to explain how there are many ingredients that are very important during the journey of finding the objective of living.
He says how the balance of these five things helps one to determine the mountain one needs to climb and find happiness in life. And how the numbers and percentage of the things on the list vary from person to person.
He concluded the session by saying how 75 years of friendship between the two countries has brought opportunities to many but there is more to go.
As the event came to an end, Sudeep Rauniar, Managing director of TEDx Durbarmarg, thanked everyone for being a part of the event, and said, “This is the 4th milestone of TEDx Durbarmargh, with 32-37 high bids. It also proves why TEDx Durbarmargh has become an emerging platform in the nation. Now our next step is TEDx Durbarmarg in Everest 2022.” He also thanked all the speakers for their inspiring words.
The event then ended with giving a token of appreciation to their partners along with their managing team, and their associates.
