Senior musician and saxophonist Suva Bahadur Sunam passed away

The Nepali music industry has lost a senior musician Shubha Bahadur Sunam today.

Within a few months of the death of his wife, Shubha Bahadur Sunam also passed away this morning at Birendra Sainik Hospital in Kathmandu. He was suffering from kidney disease for some time. 74-year-old Shubh Bahadur was still active in the music field.

He was a popular music personality in Nepal and had many features in the field of Nepali music. He has provided music in more than 750 songs.

Many of the songs composed by him are popular. His song was mostly sung by famous Nepalese singer late Tara Devi. He has given music in 10 Nepali movies.

In the past, recording songs was impossible without the presence of Shubh Bahadur. He used to play all kinds of instruments. He was especially skilled at playing the saxophone. He has been playing the saxophone for the past 56 years.

He used to play the saxophone during the times of the famous gazal singer of Pakistan Ghulam Ali, the famous singer of Nepal late Narayan Gopal, late Taradevi, late Aruna Lama, and other Bollywood artists.

He also played the role of music coordinator in various stage shows as well as song recordings.


Late Shubha Bahadur Sunam was a connoisseur of both Eastern and Western music. He passed the music exam at Trinity College of Music, London.

He participated in the international music festival by representing Nepal. Artists like Om Bikram Bista, and Sukhmeet Gurung sang Nepali songs at the International Golden Kite Festival held in Malaysia in his compositions. As a music coordinator, he did musical tours in different countries. He also gave saxophone recitals in different cities of America.

He was an exemplary person who took to music and reached the highest level.

Shubh Bahadur was enrolled in the Nepali Army, Band Battalion, at the age of 14. He was able to rise to the rank of Brigadier General of the Nepali Army.

He also used to teach music and taught former King late Dipendra to play keyboard and drumset.
