The Supreme Court has sought a response in writing from the government about the reason for putting a ban on social media platform, Tiktok.

Following a preliminary hearing today on a writ filed against the decision, the apex court has asked the government to show cause, with a written reply within the next ten days. The order was issued by the single bench of Justice Binod Sharma. The court has asked the defendant to submit a written response by December 1, and appear for a hearing on December 5, said Supreme Court joint-Spokesperson Govinda Ghimire.

A total of 10 lawyers, including senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, had filed separate writ petitions challenging the government's decision in the Supreme Court.

The government decided to ban Tiktok on November 13 citing that it has hurt social harmony.
