In between Baluwatar's busy streets is Pauline's Garden, a perfect place to take a break from the busy streets of the city and enjoy good food.

Pauline’s started serving its customers seven years ago when a French lady Pauline decided to serve a different taste in Nepal.

Later in 2019, Heaven Shrestha, along with his four childhood friends Bibek Shrestha, Anmol Thapa, Bishal Shrestha and Depesh Poudel decided to buy the place. But just four months after they took over, the pandemic hit.

However, customers are slowly filling up the space as things are coming back to normal.

While I was having a hectic day, I couldn't help but feel relaxed and at peace between all the greenery when I reached Pauline's. The vibe there is the reason that will make you want to come back time and again.

They have a wide range of food there and I was struggling to decide what I wanted as everything sounded good. I was recommended to try their three-course meal, so that's what I ordered.

Mini burger, the starters, is the most selling and most preferred dish at Pauline's. Though the size of the burger was mini, it had everything you could ask for; patty, mayo, lettuce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, and pepper.

Everything was freshly made from buns to the patties. It was well textured and every ingredient complimented each other. The mozzarella cheese and bacon took the taste of a mini burger to the next level.

As I finished the starter, a delicious smell filled the air that made my mouth water. Our main course was here; grilled chicken and baara. The chicken was stuffed with mushrooms, herbs, pepper, and lettuce and had mashed potato on the side. It was topped with butter mushroom sauce, which made it look so tempting.

Thapa adds, “In grilled chicken, you have a choice of two side dishes; mashed potato and pesto rice. And as for the baara, we have two topping options for our customers, cheese and egg.”

Baara may not sound like a new dish but one of the ingredients that they use was completely new for me. It was made of ostrich meat, which I had never tried before, so I was excited.

It was like any typical baara but the meat was rich in flavor and the egg on top made the dish whole.

Just when I thought I could not eat anymore; the dessert, chocolate walnut cake with ice-cream topping was served And what can I say, there is always a place for dessert, right?

It is one of their most popular desserts and was put together with chopped walnut, butter and icing sugar. With the little church of walnut in each bite the ice-cream on top balanced the flavours so well.

Mani Thapa, the head chef of Pauline’s says that “I started working as a head chef in Pauline’s for like two years and before that I used to wash dishes in other restaurants. After the Pauline’s was sold, we made some changes in the menu.”

Talking about the future plans, Shrestha explains that, “We are coming up with French cuisine, pizza, and cocktails as well. And we are also extending more on Airbnb and rental.”

“Pauline’s garden is also coming soon with a very good breakfast”, adds Shrestha.
