It is crazy how the food market is changing so much in Nepal.
There are restaurants serving different cuisines in crooks and crannies.
However, what do you think about a place where they serve breakfast anytime of the day?
Honestly, I would not mind finding a good smoothie bowl with fresh fruits or even pancakes in the middle of the day.
Over Easy, tucked in the busy streets of Bansbari on the way to Dhapasi, not only serves good breakfast but is a place to chill and grab a drink or two with friends.
If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in the valley, then this place is where you need to be.
As you step in, you are welcomed by a cozy house.
Inside, the place is vibrant with paintings hanging all over the walls and a beautiful garden right outside.
Started in 2019 by two friends, Over Easy also offers bed and breakfast to their customers at an affordable price.
They have a sitting area outside where you can enjoy the greenery and inside, where you can feel cozy and at home.
Since the place serves breakfast any time, it became necessary for me to try it. But first to beat the humid weather I ordered their ‘strawberry smoothie’ and ‘chocolate milkshake’.
Avisha Tuladhar, co-owner of the place, says, “Everything here is served fresh from the vegetables to the fruits. We make every dish only after it is ordered.”
Just as she promised, the strawberry smoothie was a beautiful blend of the fruit itself. It was refreshing and just perfect for the day.
Chocolate milkshake, on the other hand, was light and flavourful.
For the main course, I had ordered their ‘Over Easy breakfast’ where you can get two slices of homemade multigrain bread with different toppings.
One had a spread of peanut butter with fresh pomegranate on top, and the other with avocado and over-easy eggs.
On the side, we get bacon, sausages, hash brown, and fresh green salad.
“We bake the bread ourselves, and let it stay overnight,” Tuladhar explains.
As I took a bite through the bread it was just so soft, and the pomegranate added a beautiful texture to the smooth peanut butter.
And as for the avocado bread with eggs, the flavours were balanced and none of the ingredients was overpowering the other.
The runny egg yolk added beauty to the flavor of the fresh avocado.
Tuladhar says, “We also make our own sausages. To get the real taste of it, you have to have it before it gets cold.”
While the bacon was crispy, the sausages were juicy and easy to take a bite at.
As I could not wait to jump into the main dish, I had forgotten we had also ordered ‘Pork nachos’.
The homemade nachos came with a mixture of curry of kidney beans, pork meat, and fresh salsa made out of tomatoes, onions, green chilies, olives, and coriander.
They had dressed the dish with mayo and shredded cheese on top.
“It is tricky to make nachos, we use 80 percent of white flour and 20 percent of corn flour. If the ratio is not right, it becomes too thick and bland,” she says.
As I took a nacho with the pork meat and salsa, my mouth was filled with flavours. While the curry did not overpower the salsa, it also did not make the nachos soggy.
If you ask me, it is a perfect dish to eat while you are drinking with your friends. The portion was generous and too much for only a person or two.
While the BnB serves breakfast all day long, they also offer other dishes and also have dessert to try.
Tuladhar explains, “The competition is tough since there are so many restaurants. So I have realized it is important to stay true to the purpose of the restaurant and have something new on the menu. In 2013, we did not believe that people would come in for breakfast but we have many customers who come by every day.”
They also offer live music and DJs on Fridays and the weekends. The ambiance in the evening is prettier, sitting in the middle of the garden, fairy lights on and soft music playing in the background.
