Chocolate and Truffle: A Different Story!

A box not only full of delicious-ness but happiness as well!

Chocolates are a brown delicacy made out of cocoa beans!

With the trend of chocolate growing all across the globe, we all know there are different varieties of chocolates found, whether it is baked or in liquid form.

From dark chocolate to choc chip cookies, hot chocolate, and truffles.

But did you know, while truffles are a type of chocolate however, chocolate is merely an ingredient in truffles?

The History of Truffle:

Truffle, a European delicacy, originated from France, is named after a fungi called, Black truffle fungus.

You must be wondering why after a fungi when they are not related at all!

Well, that is because of its physical resemblance.

As per the history, it is said that the original truffle was made from a ball of ganache out of chocolate and cream rolled in powder of cocoa.

With time, we all know things evolve and truffles have as well.

There are many types of truffles now coated with nuts, or liquor infused chocolate!

But there is still confusion on what is a truffle and what is not!

While it surely can come in different flavors and shapes, if a chocolate comes with different creme or is filled with chocolate which is not a ganache, then keep in mind it is not truffle!

Talking to the owner of ‘GerryBerry’, a small Nepali homemade chocolate truffles company, Agya Dhungana says, “Truffles are made after blending chocolates with different ingredients and turning them into chocolate ganache.”

Explaining it further, she added, “Truffles are chocolate but softer and creamier.”

With their tag line, ‘Try it Feri Feri’, GerryBerry started back in 2019 with the intention of bringing gourmet truffles in the Nepali chocolate market and to give customers the real taste of true truffles.

Dhungana says, “In 2020, GerryBerry introduced four different truffles – The first, 'Classic French truffles' which is made out of homemade cocoa and cream rolled in cocoa powder. The second one is called 'Get nuts' made with melted Belgian chocolate with nuts. Then there is 'The Brazallian truffles' rich sweet chocolate infused with condensed milk, the last but not the least, 'Cheesy enough', made with a little hint of citrus and vanilla in the chocolate mix adding some homemade cream cheese, and later coated in white chocolate.”

 She also explains how it is important to keep the environment safe, so rather than using plastic covers, they use recycled papers and paper boxes!

So, maybe we can call it ‘a box not only full of delicious-ness!’
