World's most polluted cities: Kathmandu at eight spot

Nepal's capital city, Kathmandu has been listed on the eighth spot of the world's most polluted cities. Pakistan's Lahore is listed on the top, according to the European IQ Air live update. The air quality index of Lahore is reported as PM-2.5 (particulate matter) at 407 micrograms per cubic meter per hour that is hazardous.

In Nepal, the index has exceeded five hundred. Today morning, Kathmandu's Air Quality Level measured at PM-2.5 has reached 176 per hour, according to IQ Air data.

An index above 151 is considered unhealthy. The air pollution increased in Kathmandu due to weather change, said Environmental Expert, Yadavraj Joshi.

4) Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

5) Kolkata, India

6) Zagreb, Croatia

7) Dhaka, Bangladesh

List of Nepal's red zone cities:

The Department of Environment also measures the air pollution of Nepal. According to the data of the Air Quality measurement center kept by the department in different cities of the country including Kathmandu, the pollution is increasing.

The pollution level of five cities including Kathmandu has reached to hazardous level for health, according to today's data.

The PM 2.5 per hour has reached 184 in Pokhara, 176 in Biratnagar, 151 in Ratna Park of Kathmandu, 156 in Kirtipur, and 154 in Simara.

The pollution is also increasing in Dhankuta, Dhangadhi, and Mahendranagar.

Although the air quality of these cities exceeds the national standards, they have not reached the red zone.
