Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepali scientists are capable enough to make discoveries of the international standard. They should be able to utilise natural resources and ancestral knowledge.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology today, Prime Minister Oli, who is the Chancellor of the Academy, said every citizen should be provided with the opportunity to explore their talent and research in an area of their interest. "If we want to build a society that fulfils basic human needs, we must give every individual an opportunity to harness their talents," he said.
Stating that the country was gradually making progress in the field of science and technology, Prime Minister Oli cited his own second successful kidney transplant carried out inside the country as a testimony to it.
We have to use science and technology to increase the productivity of our land, he said while referring to the success achieved by Israel in the field of agriculture.
At the programme, Prime Minister Oli presented the 2077 NAST nature preservation prize to World Wildlife Fund, Nepal and the Chancellor National Innovation Prize to National Innovation Centre. Various other personalities were honoured with different awards on the occasion.
