International Conference of HBWs on April 25-28

An international conference of home-based workers (HBWs) is taking place in the federal capital, Kathmandu, on April 25-28.

The event will be bringing together as many as 200 home-based workers from 39 countries, according to Homenet International, the host.

Homenet South Asia regional coordinator Sristi Joshi Malla said workers from Asia, Africa and Latin America will be attending the four-day programme. The conference will also showcase the productions of home-based workers on the occasion.

Working papers on the topics related to home-based workers will be presented during the Conference that also aims to highlight the contributions of HBWs through a photo exhibition.

The Homenet South Asia shared there were estimably over 67 million home-based workers with majority of women in merely four South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan.

Homenet South Asia is an association of HBWs across South Asia representing over 1.2 million HBWs. Of its members, 95 percent are women and five percent are men.

The event participants will also make on-site visits of various organizations relating to HBWs in Nepal. These organizations additionally engage in making clay pots, weaving Dhaka, producing embroidery, making toys and so on. The Conference is viewed as a forum to share learnings and experiences among the HBWs.
