Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government has always been active in fulfilling the dreams of martyrs.

Extending tributes to known and unknown martyrs at Lainchaur-based Martyr's Memorial today, the last day of Martyrs Week, the prime minister opined that the sacrifice made by the martyrs had empowered the people and contributed in institutionalising democracy.

Similarly, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sundar Shakya, said that the republic has become successful in Nepal due to the sacrifices made by the martyrs.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatta, Minister of State for Urban Development Rambir Manandhar, people's representatives, high-ranking government officials, Chief of Army Staff, Inspector General of Police, Inspector General of APF and the general public were present on the occasion.

Earlier, a rally was organised in the morning from Shantibatika, Ratna Park to Lainchaur accompanied by a musical band. A contingent of the Nepal Army had offered a guard of honor to the martyrs.

Martyrs Day is observed commemorating the day when Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand, who fought for the establishment of democracy against the Rana autocracy, were given the death penalty in 1997 BS.

The Rana rulers had given death penalty to Shastri at Kharibot of Teku, and Mathema at Sifal on Magh 10 and Chand on the banks of Bishnumati River and Shrestha at Shova Bhagawati on Magh 15.

The KMC has installed full-size statues in memory of the four martyrs.
