Garbage management in the Kathmandu Valley has been suspended for ten days due to obstruction by locals on the Pasanglamu Highway. Citizens of Kathmandu Valley have been directly affected by the frequent stoppage of work by the construction businessmen responsible for the maintenance of Pasanglamu Highway.

Garbage management work of 18 local levels of Kathmandu Valley has been stopped recently since April 24. Garbage has been blocked on the road due to obstruction of the residents of Pasanglamu Highway saying that the road leading to Sisdol in Nuwakot has not been repaired in time.

Although the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has been managing garbage through alternative routes through Nepaltar for a few days now, the work of bringing garbage has come to a complete halt due to the regular rains and the locals of the area saying that they will not allow garbage trucks to be brought. Garbage piled up on the road for a long time has been a problem. According to Sarita Rai, head of the environment department of the CPN (Maoist), the problem has arisen time and time again due to lack of long-term solution for garbage disposal. According to him, the road started in 2013 AD has not been completed so far and the locals have been obstructing the garbage disposal due to repeated obstructions.

"The central government should be sensitive to such issues," said Rai. As the place is full, there are more problems in waste management. According to Kampa, the problem has arisen due to non-completion of the long-term garbage management site under construction at Bancharedanda, two kilometers away from the place where the garbage is being managed. Every day, 1,200 metric tons of garbage is being managed in Sisdol from the Kathmandu Valley. Out of this, 500 metric tons of garbage of Kampa is released. At least 200 vehicles, both private and private, bring garbage daily.

About 75 percent of the garbage emitted daily from the Kathmandu Valley is being managed in Sisdol. Due to the obstruction of the locals, the final management of garbage could not be done for 32 days in March and April. According to Kampa, it will be more difficult in terms of garbage management in the coming days as regular rains have started and more garbage will be released during the rainy season. Stating that a big problem will arise in the valley on the day of garbage, Chief Rai said that the central government should immediately find a solution to the problem.
