Cultural assets should be preserved for future generation: VP Pun

Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has said cultural assets of Nepal should be preserved for the future generation.

Addressing the 'Magar Bhume-Bhumya Festival-2022' organised by Nepal Magar Association here today, Vice-President shared it was necessary to preserve and develop festivals carrying civilization, history and identity. The VP drew the attention of the bodies concerned to modify and revise the cultures which are obstacles for the development and prosperity.

"Language, geographical territory, civilization, culture and identity are linked with festivals. So it is necessary to preserve and promote the festivals. There will be no meaning of our physical presence if there is no culture and language," he said.

Saying Bhume festival, the festival of Magar Community, is connected with cultural civilization, the VP further said, "Bume festival is respect towards land."

He mentioned that everyone should be able to accept and respect each other's identities, saying national unity would be further strengthened if we accept and respect each other's identities.

Similarly, Chairperson of Health and Education Committee under the House of Representatives, Jaypuri Gharti said there should be meaningful participation of indigenous communities including Magar at every bodies of the state.

Likewise, Chairperson of Indigenous Nationalities Commission, Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar, stressed the need of formation of a separate indigenous nationalities ministry to ensure rights of indigenous nationalities.

Chairperson of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Nabin Roka Magar, said major festivals of all indigenous nationalities should be given national recognition.

Bhume festival is celebrated with special importance in different districts including Rolpa, Rukum (East), Pyuthan, Rukum (West), Dang, Baglung and Myagdi.
