Bagmati River Cleanup Mega Campaign continues amidst torrential rain

The Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign and other related cleaning programmes were continued even amidst torrential rains in Kathmandu today.

Trash and garbage along the river in Pashupati and Shankhamul areas was collected and managed today as part of the 424th week of the Mega Campaign today.

Member of the Board of Directors of the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, Dr Mala Kharel led the cleaning programme at Pashupati area while Campaigner Dr Laxmi Poudel led the cleanup programme at Shankhamul area. Campaigners and volunteers managed the waste and trash on the river bank at these areas.

Similarly, waste in the area south of the Anandapul at Tokha Municipality-9 has been managed in the 357th week today of the Bishnumati Cleanup Campaign. Tree saplings have also been planted in the area.

The campaign of cleaning one of the most important and revered rivers in the Kathmandu Valley was launched on 19 May 2013.

Likewise, the cleanup has been done in the Bagmati river upstream of Guheshwori, the Rudramati rivulet, the upstream areas of Bishnumati rivulet, the Manohara rivulet, the Godawari Khola rivulet and the northern and western sectors of the Ring Road.

The cleaning works were carried out at these areas by maintaining physical distance and adoptin health safety measures in view of the risk of COVID-19.

The Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign has spurred similar cleanup programmes in other tributaries of the Bagmati River. The cleanup programmes have been continued at 20 locations around the Ring Road as well.

Emulating the Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign, cleaning of public places and rivers is taking place in 107 places in major cities, rivers and cultral heritage sites throughout the country including in the Kathmandu Valley.

The cleanup campaign has the theme of 'Volunteering in the Service of the Country for Two Hours a Week.'
